The Editor speaks: When will 'she' ever learn?

After being let off lightly by one of
our very nice ex- Ministers for false reporting, Sandra Hill, of
Cayman Marl Road website, apparently didn't learn anything.

The website and owner have also had
public condemnation from the RCIPS for their reporting.

Now Health Minister, Dwayne Seymour,
has filed a legal action against them both. Seymour, also represents
the constituency of Bodden Town East.

Seymour wasn't named in the article,
but apparently there was enough to point the finger at him through
the dreaded social media that indicated who the MLA might be.

The article run by Cayman Marl Road
alleged an eleven year old boy was raped by a Bodden Town man earlier
on this year and there was an attempt at a cover up. An un-named MLA
supposedly paid off the family of the boy to suppress the truth of
the matter. This was done to protect the rapist.

Terrible story that this media house
did not run until we received a Police Report confirming no rape had
taken place. The Police Report said there had been a safe guarding
issue and the boy had been sent to MASH. The hospital, according to
the Report, confirmed there had been no sexual assault on the boy and
no complaint ever made to the police. The story was, therefore,
false.

So where did Hill get her information
from and where was the evidence to support such a claim? I understand
the RCIPs are making their own investigation into the source.

As a journalist here for thirty years I
have received many claims that would make even more 'juicier'
reading. There were 'claims' given to me by well respected community
members that told me if I published the story, and it was challenged,
they would provide me with all the evidence I wanted.

Really?

In addition to the other case I
mentioned, Cayman resident, Blake Ducharme, has also sued Hill and
Cayman Marl Road over a story they ran stating he had been able to
dodge an illegal gun charge.

The RCIPS confirmed the gun seized
belonged to someone else.

When I first came to these beautiful Islands nearly forty years ago there was plenty of marl road gossip including a hand printed double sided folded news sheet called “On The Marl Road”. It was a fun read, then, and there were even attempts to close it down.

Hill is a very intelligent lady and it
does worry me why she would want to print baseless claims, especially
in these times of Internet, Facebook, Tweets, WhatsApp, etc. etc.

It is so easy to destroy anyone now and
I wonder why anybody would want to get into politics unless they ay
are squeaky clean...... or Donald Trump!

Please Ms. Hill learn. Learn. Learn.
Publish the facts, Ma'am The facts. And nothing but the facts.
PLEASE!!! Ma'am!!!!
