Seven people have been arrested during RCIPS police operations over the weekend

Seven people have been arrested after police carried out a series of operations in George Town and West Bay that led to the seizure of drugs and a suspected firearm. The arrests took place on Friday, 10 July, and Saturday, 11 July, during searches linked to the investigation.

The RCIPS said officers first stopped a vehicle in central George Town shortly after 20:00 on Friday. A search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a quantity of cannabis, and those in the vehicle were arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

Searches in George Town and West Bay

Police said the stop in George Town formed part of a wider investigation that continued into the night and the following day. Officers later searched a residential property in Windsor Park, where they arrested a man who was wanted in connection with an assault investigation.

During the search of the Windsor Park address, officers also found a quantity of suspected cocaine and uncovered additional quantities of suspected cannabis, drug paraphernalia and a suspected firearm. The man was then further arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences.

On Saturday, 11 July, officers executed a separate search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a residential address in West Bay. There, police recovered another quantity of suspected cannabis and arrested two people on suspicion of drug-related offences.

Items seized for forensic examination

The RCIPS said all recovered items had been seized for forensic and investigative examination. Including the cannabis, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and the suspected firearm seized during the various searches.

Police did not announce any charges. The investigation remains ongoing. Under Cayman Islands law, the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

RCIPS did not give further details on the assault investigation beyond saying the man at the Windsor Park address had been wanted in connection with it.

Public appeal & misinformation

The RCIPS also said it was aware of an inaccurate news article circulating about a separate investigation. In a statement, police confirmed that Michael Gollab remains wanted and asked the public for help in locating him.

"The RCIPS is aware of an inaccurate news article currently being circulated regarding this ongoing investigation and can confirm that Michael Gollab remains wanted by police. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222."
