The most popular golf movies of all time

Golf
is one of the most popular sports in the world, having many players
and fans in English-speaking countries (United States, Canada, United
Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand), in the Scandinavian ones
(Sweden, Denmark, Finland), or in the German-speaking countries
(Germany, Switzerland or Austria).
There
are dozens of millions of players worldwide, a lot of money involved
and so many fans, so is no wonder the big popularity. Also, some say
that playing
golf may even help you live longer.
One
of the most important tournaments is the US Open, which is played
since the end of the nineteenth century, traditionally in mid-June.
This year’s edition was postponed for September, due to the
coronavirus pandemic. You can find the odds on Unibet,
with Rory Mcllroy being the favorite (+800). The second is Brooks

Being

Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius (2004)
The
movie tells the true story of the
golf legend Bobby Jones,
who became famous in the 1920s, and then retired in 1930, at just 28
years of age. Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in The Passion of the
Christ, had the lead role in this movie. Claire Forlani, Malcolm
McDowell and Aidan Quinn are part of this drama’s cast. Bobby Jones
was the only golf player to win all four of the men's major golf
championships in a single season.

The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005)
Another
biopic drama on this list is the story of the American Francis
Ouimet, played by Shia LaBeouf. At 20 years, in the 1913 US Open, he
played against his idol, the Englishman Harry Vardon. Vardon, played
by actor Stephen Dillane, won the US Open in 1900 and he was 23 years
older than Ouimet. Bill Paxton is the director and we will not tell
the outcome of the match.

Academy
Awards winner Kevin Costner plays the golfer in this
drama-comedy-romance movie, in which he wants to win the heart of a
girl, played by Rene Russo. The movie stars also Don Johnson.
Costner’s character, Roy McAvoy, qualifies for the US Open, and the
story goes on from there. Some even view it as the top golf movie
ever.

The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)
And
then there’s this movie, with Will Smith in the role of Bagger
Vance, Matt Damon and Charlize Theron. A drama with fantasy in it,
the movie is about one golf player (Damon) who gets help from a
mystical figure (Smith). This way, the fictional golfer gets to play
even with Bobby Jones, the movie being set during the Great
Depression. The director is the Academy Award winner Robert Redford.

Happy Gilmore (1996)
With
Adam
Sandler as
the main character, you definitely will expect a comedy. And this is
it – he plays the role of a rejected hockey player who turns to
golf in an attempt to save his grandmother’s house. Happy Gilmore
decides then to try his luck in the pro circuit, but he lacks the
etiquette. The movie is also considered by many as being the best
when it comes to golf. And it features Ben Stiller too.

for the greatest golf movie is Caddyshack. Also a comedy, it has Bill
Murray and Chevy Chase in the distribution. The movie is a classic,
with memorable lines, and it is centered on the Bushwood Country
Club.
