Sir John A. Cumber Recover From 16-Second Goal to Hold CIS 1-1 in CUC Primary Football League Return

Sir John A. Cumber Primary conceded in the 16th second and still drew 1-1 on Saturday.
The West Bay school's Under 11 boys were playing Cayman International School (CIS) at Camana Bay on 31 October 2026, the first weekend of CUC Primary Football League (PFL) games since the mid-term break. CIS' Liam Romizowski scored almost from the kick-off, taking advantage of what the league's match report, published on 2 November, called "some questionable defending" with a goal that "could be the quickest goal scored this season".
Mason Butler levelled in the 16th minute, pouncing on a loose ball and poking it past the CIS goalkeeper, according to the same report. Goalkeeper Dillian Wright then kept the score at 1-1 for the rest of the game, making what the league described as "some truly unbelievable saves" as CIS pressed for a winner.
The report said the West Bay boys "quickly recovered from that initial shock of conceding so early" and that the game then "took on a more even tempo", with most of the play staying in midfield and occasional forays into either attacking area. The league's weekly review is written by its coordinators, the Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL), and is the only published account of the games.
Three games at Camana Bay
The Under 11 draw was the middle game of three between the two schools on CIS' home field, which the league's published schedule lists as Camana Bay SC. In the 9:00am Under 9 game, CIS' Lalo Perry scored in the 17th and 28th minutes for a 2-0 win over Sir John A. Cumber 9A.
In the 10:00am CUC Girls' Primary Football League (GPFL) game, CIS' Finley Nixon scored what the league called "an unstoppable free kick" into the top corner in the 28th minute. That single goal was enough for a 1-0 win over a Sir John A. Cumber side the report described as "a very talented and well-disciplined" team.
The review said the three games were "filled with 'bone-crunching' tackles, great goals and superb goalkeeping". Taken together, the morning left CIS with two wins from the three meetings and Sir John A. Cumber with the point its older boys took from a game they had been losing inside the first minute.
Twenty-one years of CUC backing
CUC, the Caribbean Utilities Company, has sponsored the primary league since 2005 and brought the girls' league under the same banner in 2014, according to the CYFL's website. The company's support covers organisation, officiating and certifying officials through the Cayman Islands Football Association, as well as uniforms, balls, referees' equipment, field preparation and trophies, the website says.
The leagues play in two groups. Group A, in which CIS and Sir John A. Cumber sit, has nine Under 9 teams and eight Under 11 teams, and the girls' Group A has seven schools, according to the 2026 schedules the league circulated on 14 September. Because of the size of Group A, its schools were asked to play on the first Saturday of the mid-term break, 17 October, while Group B had both break Saturdays off.
Results elsewhere
Several results carry the league's respect rule, under which the referee stops recording goals once a set winning margin is reached, so the score shown is the recorded score rather than the final tally.
In Group A of the Under 9 division, Marie Martin Primary beat Cayman Prep 9B 3-1 and St. Ignatius Catholic drew 1-1 with Theoline L. McCoy Primary. In the Group A Under 11 games, Marie Martin Primary beat Cayman Prep 11B 5-1 (respect rule) and St. Ignatius Catholic beat Theoline L. McCoy Primary 3-0.
In Group B, the Under 9 results were Cayman Prep 9A 4-0 Island Primary 9B (respect rule), First Baptist CS 1-1 Island Primary 9C, NorthEast Schools 3-0 Sir John A. Cumber Primary 9B and Prospect Primary 4-1 Red Bay Primary. In the Under 11 division, Cayman Prep 11A beat Island Primary 11A 5-1 (respect rule), Cayman Brac beat First Baptist CS 3-0, Footsteps School beat NorthEast Schools 4-0 (respect rule) and Prospect Primary beat Red Bay Primary 4-1.
The only other GPFL game saw Cayman Prep GB beat Marie Martin Primary 4-0 (respect rule) in Group A. No Group B girls' games were scheduled, and the schedule shows none for Group B on 7 November either, with its four schools back in action on 14 November.
West Bay hosts St. Ignatius next
Sir John A. Cumber's three teams are at home at the West Bay Town Hall Field on Saturday, 7 November, against St. Ignatius Catholic, with the Under 9 game at 9:00am, the girls at 10:00am and the Under 11s at 11:00am, according to the league's schedule. CIS travel to Joanna Clarke Primary the same morning for games at the same three times.
Other games on 7 November are at the Annex Field, Island Primary, First Baptist CS, Prospect Primary, Ronald Forbes Field and Camana Bay. In Group B, Cayman Prep 9A meet Sir John A. Cumber 9B and Cayman Prep 11A meet Footsteps School at the Annex Field, while Prospect Primary host Island Primary and First Baptist CS host Red Bay Primary.
Three Saturdays of regular-season games remain, on 7, 14 and 21 November, before the playoffs. The top four schools in each division go into the Champions Cup and the rest into the Consolation Cup, with quarter-finals on 28 November, semi-finals on 5 December and the finals and third-place games on 12 December. All playoff games are at the Annex Field.
