Cayman's men lost 1-0 to Puerto Rico in Mayagüez on 4 October 2026, ending the first window of their Concacaf Nations League B campaign with one point from four games and no goals scored. Jeremy de León scored the only goal in the 64th minute, according to Concacaf's match record and its match report published on 5 October.

The defeat was Cayman's third in a row. The side drew 0-0 with Dominica on 24 September, then lost 2-0 to Guyana on 27 September and 3-0 to Puerto Rico on 1 October before Sunday's game. Cayman sit third in League B Group A on goal difference above Dominica, who also have one point, with two group matches still to play in November.

Fourth place in the group carries relegation. Under the format Concacaf confirmed on 24 July 2026, "Group winners will be promoted to League A, while fourth-place finishers will be relegated to League C." The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) said in a statement published by Radio Cayman on 25 August that the matches were the team's debut in League B after it earned promotion from League C in the previous Nations League cycle. The final two matches will decide whether Cayman stay there.

The match

Puerto Rico and Cayman were scoreless at half-time at the Estadio Centroamericano de Mayagüez, where the game kicked off at 18:00 local time. The match was decided in the 64th minute when, in the words of Concacaf's report, de León "picked down the right side of the box before striking with a finish to the far post". Concacaf's match data credits Wilfredo Rivera with the assist. Four minutes of stoppage time were added and Cayman did not find an equaliser.

Head coach Colin "Dougie" Rowe set Cayman up in a 4-2-3-1 and started Deshawn Whittaker in goal behind Jabari Campbell, Cameron Gray, captain D'Andre Rowe and Joshwa Campbell, with Harrison Hew, Jordan Bonilla, Zachary Scott, Christopher Reeves and Elijah Seymour in midfield and attack alongside Gunnar Studenhofft, according to Concacaf's team sheet. Dominic Owens replaced Gray in the 40th minute, Jacobbi Tugman and Sebastian Martinez came on for Seymour and Scott in the 68th, and Trey Ebanks and Jahziah Johnson replaced Bonilla and Reeves in the 78th.

Cayman were shown five yellow cards against three for Puerto Rico. Seymour was booked in the 12th minute and Joshwa Campbell in the 19th, Reeves in the 50th, Owens in the 54th and Martinez in the second minute of stoppage time. Puerto Rico, who lined up in a 4-3-3 captained by Leandro Antonetti, had Andre Cutler, Nicolás Cardona and Aleksei Armas cautioned.

The two sides had met at the same ground on 1 October, when Cayman were the designated home team and lost 3-0. Ricardo Rivera scored in the 26th minute, Wilfredo Rivera in the 45th and Antonetti from a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time, Concacaf's report of that match said.

How the window unfolded

Cayman's campaign had opened with what Concacaf said was the 500th match in the Nations League's history, a 0-0 draw with Dominica at Windsor Park in Roseau on 24 September. Concacaf had identified the fixture as the milestone match in advance, in a statement on 22 September. Three days later at the same ground Guyana beat Cayman 2-0, Liam Gordon scoring in the 15th minute and Osaze De Rosario in the 36th, according to Concacaf's report of that match.

The other results in the group shaped the table around Cayman. Guyana beat Puerto Rico 1-0 in Roseau on 24 September through a 78th-minute De Rosario penalty, Puerto Rico beat Dominica 2-0 on 27 September, and Guyana then beat Dominica 5-1 on 1 October and 8-1 on 4 October in Mayagüez, with Omari Glasgow, Deon Moore and Elliot Bonds each scoring twice in the second of those games, Concacaf's reports said.

After four matches Guyana lead the group with 12 points, having scored 16 and conceded two. Puerto Rico are second on nine. Cayman, with no goals scored and six conceded, and Dominica, with two scored and 15 conceded, each have one point. The standings are compiled by The Caymanian Journal (TCJ) from Concacaf's match records of the eight group games played to 4 October.

Guyana arrived in the group as a side relegated from League A, according to the list of League B teams Concacaf published when it confirmed the competition's format. Cayman was one of four promoted sides in the 16-team league, alongside Barbados, Belize and Saint Kitts and Nevis. League B is organised in four groups of four, with each team playing six matches across the September-October and November windows, and the four group winners advance to a League B Championship, which Concacaf has scheduled for 22 to 30 March 2027.

No home game in Cayman

None of Cayman's four September and October matches was played in the Cayman Islands. Cayman were listed as the home team for two of them, against Dominica on 24 September and Puerto Rico on 1 October, and those games were played in Roseau and Mayagüez respectively.

Concacaf set out the reason when it confirmed the groups on 24 July: "Group Stage matches will be played at centralized venues, a format change introduced in the last edition to reduce travel demands and support Member Associations in delivering the highest possible standards of competition."

The CIFA statement published by Radio Cayman on 25 August said the team had drawn 1-1 with Inter Miami CF's under-20 side on 22 August in an exhibition match that marked the opening of Field 2 at the Camana Bay Sports Complex.

Rowe said in that statement that the fixtures were "another important step for this group", adding: "We worked hard to earn promotion and now we know exactly where and when we'll begin this next challenge. League B will demand more from us, but these are the matches we want to be playing. We'll prepare properly and go into every game believing we can compete."

What comes next

Cayman's remaining two matches, as designated home team against Guyana and designated away team against Dominica, fall in the November window, which Concacaf has set for 9 to 17 November 2026. Concacaf said on 21 August that "the schedule for the November 2026 and March 2027 windows will be announced at a later date", and TCJ found no later announcement on Concacaf's website by 5 October.

The Nations League also serves as the qualifying competition for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup, and Concacaf said in its 24 July statement that it "will announce the exact qualifying criteria at a later date".

Cayman and Dominica are level on one point, and the fourth-placed team is relegated to League C, the tier Cayman left when they were promoted. Cayman hold third place for now on a goal difference of minus six against Dominica's minus 13, and Concacaf has yet to say where either of the two November games will be played.
