New exhibition in the Sister Islands

As a part
of an ongoing collaboration between the National Gallery of the
Cayman Islands (“NGCI”), the Little Cayman Museum, Cayman Brac
Reef Resort and the Cayman Islands Legacy Fund (CILF), two new art
exhibitions have opened in the Sister Islands this week. Following
several successful projects over the past two years, this is the
fifth collaboration between the partners, bringing travelling
exhibitions from the National Gallery collections to audiences in the
Sister Islands.

Luminescent
Forms: Art Under the Microscope

opened at Cayman Brac Reef Resort after a three-month showing at the
Little Cayman Museum. The popular exhibition bridges art and science
through photographs of foraminifera, tiny single-celled organisms
found in marine habitats around the world that, when fossilized
become part of our sand structure. Using a binocular microscope,
engineer Roland Verreet meticulously magnifies these creatures to
over 50 times their original size, allowing us to view their
remarkable structures in large format. The stunning images aim
to shed light on a captivating and remarkable world that few know
exist.

The Little
Cayman Museum is hosting Seascapes:
Maritime Art from the National Collection
.
Honouring our maritime heritage, the exhibition seeks to highlight
our intrinsic relationship with the ocean and the beauty of our
coastline through artworks from the National Collection. The featured
artists are among the Islands’ most prolific and each have
approached their work in different ways. Some have sought to capture
light and water in their purest aesthetic forms by painting ‘en
plein air’ directly on the seashore, while others have illustrated
their subject via a more stylised approach— often the result of
careful study and development in a studio environment.

Michael
Tibbetts, chairman of CILF, a
non-profit organization established by the Tibbetts family to honour
the legacy of Linton and Polly Tibbetts, says, "we are proud to
support NGCI by hosting their exhibitions and working with their
staff to provide inspiring programming. This
not only brings stunning exhibitions to audiences in Cayman Brac, but
also allows this partnership to continue our vision for the Little
Cayman Museum, which is to share our unique history and culture with
our community and visitors
to the island."
