The Editor speaks: Miracles DO happen Mr. Premier
Colin Wilson

Premier, Alden McLaughlin, must be very
upset with himself for saying out loud how confident he was in the
Referendum on Government’s proposed cruise berthing and cargo port
project would be found in his favor on December on 19th
December.

He was so confident he said words to
the effect that only a miracle would stop it. He even told people
that were in favor of the project they really didn't need to vote as
an absentee vote from a registered electoral roll member would be a
'YES' vote.

Since then he has changed his tune as
he has been heavily criticized and wiser heads have told him being
arrogant in not a good trait. It has alienated a number of his base
followers, including me.

Over the past few weeks he has becoming
increasingly worried, especially after The Cayman National Trust had
raised objections and asked for more information that was not
forthcoming. They sent out a Press Release they were seeking a
Judicial Review.

I had not planned to write my “Editor
Speaks” piece today but I felt the necessity of it when I received
a little while ago the result of the application to hold a Judicial
Review.

We published the Premier's statement
within minutes of receiving it under “Breaking News”.

“Grand Court Judge Tim Owen granted
leave this morning to apply for judicial review and provisionally
scheduled a full hearing for 20 January, 2020. He indicated the
referendum should be delayed until after a judgment is delivered.”

“We will now need to await the
judicial review in January before having a clear idea as to the way
forward,” the premier added.

There is nothing more I want or need to add, except that every day, Mr. Premier, “Miracles DO Happen”.
