Miami-Grand Cayman Flight's Turbulent Timekeeping

Passengers travelling between Miami and Grand Cayman may have experienced more delays than expected, with third-party flight performance data suggesting Cayman Airways' Flight KX107 has struggled to keep to schedule in recent weeks.
According to data published by FlightStats, KX107 – Cayman Airways' evening service from Miami to Grand Cayman – has recorded an on-time performance of 59% over the past 60 days, meaning around 4 in 10 flights arrived more than 15 minutes behind schedule. Flight performance providers generally classify flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time as "on time".
Airportia reports Cayman Airways' wider network has achieved an 89% on-time performance over the past 30 days.
KX107 operates four evenings a week – on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays – departing Miami International Airport at 20:40 and arriving at Owen Roberts International Airport at 21:15. The service is commonly used by Cayman residents returning from business, shopping and medical appointments in South Florida, as well as passengers connecting through Miami from destinations across the United States and beyond.
The apparent difference between KX107's punctuality and the airline's wider network performance prompted The Caymanian Journal (TCJ) to contact Cayman Airways seeking an explanation.
At the time of publication, Cayman Airways had not provided a substantive response to the questions raised by TCJ.
Delay factors
The FlightStats data does not identify the reasons for individual delays. Flight punctuality can be affected by a range of factors, including adverse weather, air traffic control restrictions, airport congestion, late-arriving aircraft, maintenance requirements, crew availability and other operational considerations.
The on-time performance figures cited in this article are based on publicly available data published by FlightStats and Airportia.
The Caymanian Journal will update this article should Cayman Airways provide further comment or context regarding the recent performance of Flight KX107.
