Cayman: Camana Bay’s newest restaurant, Pane & Pasta, offers authentic Italian food for dine in, take out and make at home

Camana Bay just got a little more
Italian with the recent opening of Pane & Pasta, the town’s
newest restaurant.

Located on the ground floor of One
Nexus Way, Pane & Pasta combines its restaurant space with
retail, offering many of its housemade pastas and sauces for sale for
those wishing to pick up fresh ingredients to whip up a quick and
delicious dinner at home. For those dining in, the restaurant offers
spacious indoor seating with alfresco dining in Heliconia Court,
Camana Bay’s largest courtyard that offers a serene landscaped area
to enjoy a meal, whether a business lunch or date-night dinner.

Restaurateurs Paolo Castello and Amedeo
Masala (Amedeo is also the restaurant’s head chef) have created a
menu of authentically Italian dishes from across the country. Having
owned and operated a restaurant together in Turin, Italy, the
business partners have joined forces with baker Selene Oddenino to
introduce some of the less common but very Italian dishes to Cayman
Islands residents and visitors.

”Simply put, we love Italian food.
Amedeo has about 20 years’ experience in restaurants in Italy,”
Castello explained. On what caused them to choose Camana Bay as the
spot for their first venture in Cayman, Castello added: “We loved
the location of Camana Bay – to us it is the main “chic” spot
on island. It has become the pulsing heart of Grand Cayman.”

Guests to the restaurant will get to
see the chefs put their world-class skills to work in an open kitchen
concept where they can witness the bread- and pasta-making processes.

As the name (which translates to Bread
& Pasta) implies, bread also features prominently in Pane &
Pasta’s offerings. In the restaurant’s retail area, freshly baked
breads can be purchased along with the fresh pastas and sauces and a
“cafetteria” menu created for those wanting a quick grab-and-go
snack or lunch offers sandwiches made on a variety of house-baked
breads, pizzas by the slice, baked goods including croissants, tartes
and cookies and fresh juices, teas and coffees.

In addition to this menu, Castello and
Masala have created diverse lunchtime and dinnertime menus, and a
menu featuring happy hour offerings that can be scaled according to
the number of people in your group. With plenty of vegetarian
options, there is something for the meat lover, cheese lover or
vegetarian and daily specials ensure variety, including soup, filled
pasta and salad, pizza and desserts of the day.

“Pasta, bread and pizza are the most
popular items in Italian cuisine, known in every part of the world.
We want to give this taste of Italy to all who live in Cayman,”
Castello said.

There is a touch of local on the menu,
too, with a fried breadfruit as one of the side options and local
influences such as mango chutney served with the restaurant’s tuna
tartare starter and mahi-mahi and callaloo offered as a main course.

“This was a
deliberate choice”, Castello explained. “While we want to bring a
taste of Italy, Cayman is our new home. We think it’s beautiful to
integrate our tradition with Caribbean influences to have an
explosive mixture of flavour and taste.”

For those wishing to enjoy Pane &
Pasta’s offerings at home, delivery is available through the “Let’s
Eat” service.

Pane & Pasta is open six days a
week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Initially, opening times will
be Monday to Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday 10
a.m. to 10 p.m. Pane & Pasta look forward to opening their doors
