Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir presents: “A Christmas Concert”

The Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir were once again in great voice a week Sunday (2) at their ‘home” Elmslie Memorial Church, on the waterfront  in George Town.

There was a very good crowd in attendance that were appreciative of
the powerful men’s voices that rang out around this beautiful old
church.

Conductor, Ernest Bodden managed to draw every ounce of vocal refrain
from the mouths of the men that I have got to love so much over the
thirty plus years I have been present to hear them sing. Some of these
men are no longer around but I still felt their presence and from the
opening crescendo it did seem they were still there. That was how mighty
the first vocal sound exploded.

Pianist, Antonio Sanchez and organist Denver Bloomfield accompanied
the choir and there was also a guest performance from the excellent
North Side group, New Direction. They sang “Redeeming Love” and
“Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”.

Choir member, Kenneth Melville was once again on hand to play his sword using a violin bow.

Other soloists/group singers included Winston Brown, Colson Daniels,
Country Singer Roy Bodden, Kenneth Melville and Rudy Myles. I have to
mention Mr. Myles again as, for me, his was the stand out performance of
the evening. His solo, “Oh Holy Night” was the one of the very best
vocals I have heard of this beautiful carol and well deserved the
standing ovation it got.

The Master of Ceremonies was Pr. John McMillan who had a nice easy going banter that fitted the tone of the night so well.

If that wasn’t enough the choir even gave us all some refreshments in
the hall. That was, I believe, to thank us for making us join in on two
carols.

The final one, being very fittingly, “Joy to the World”.

Now, for me, the exciting feeling of Christmas has begun.
