On
Friday 25 September, Grant Thornton Cayman Islands took an afternoon
out of the office to participate in the global ‘GT in the
Community’ corporate social responsibility day.
Each
year, Grant Thornton’s 56,000 employees close office doors, as all
staff are encouraged to get involved in local community projects,
with a promise of the global initiative to ‘Act, Commit and Share’.
This
year, the team headed to local restaurant Le
Vele for a class on how to
create authentic homemade pizza. The pizzas were then cooked on site
and donated to the Cayman Food Bank.
Cayman
Food Bank provide an island-wide distribution facility to ensure
vulnerable and low-income families across the island have access to
nutritious food. Phillip Hyre, Operations Manager of the initiative
said ‘We are very grateful to Grant Thornton for their donation to
Cayman Food Bank. We have over 300 families in need of support, with
numbers growing even higher after the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic.’

Each
staff member crafted a pizza to donate, and Le Vele kindly matched
the donation, contributing to the charity’s mission of mitigating
island-wide hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
‘Helping
our local community is of paramount importance to Grant Thornton’,
said Dara Keogh, Managing Partner of the firm, ‘and we were
delighted to be able to come together for our 2020 CSR day, providing
much needed support to Cayman Food Bank and families in need on the
island’.
‘2020
has certainly provided challenges for our community, so we were
pleased to be able to do a small bit to not only donate to charity,
but to support local business too’, he continued.
Grant
Thornton are active contributors to our local community, and the
annual CSR day is just one element of their mission to create
lasting, sustainable benefits that empowers our local community to
thrive.
