Cayman air traffic visibility requires clearing of trees

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (26 August 2020) As part of the next phase of continued improvements in operations and safety standards at the Airports, The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), which operates the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) and the Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA), will be clearing trees at the Airport Park near to Fosters Food Fair and clearing of land near the Cricket Pitch on Wednesday, 2 September 2020.

The clearing of trees at the Airport Park has become necessary to provide Air Traffic Control with better visibility of aircraft maneuvering on the newly extended runway at the westerly section of the airfield on Grand Cayman. The clearing of land by the cricket field is necessary to remove the vegetation penetrating the flight path for landing and departing aircraft.

These works are being carried out in accordance with the “AIRPORTS AUTHORITY (SAFE GUARDING) REGULATIONS, 2019”.
