Cayman: Man charged with Assaulting Police

Update (16 January):

The man, age 19 of Bodden Town, who was arrested on Thursday, 12 January in relation to an incident where a police officer was assaulted whilst off duty, has now been formally charged with Assault ABH, Assaulting Police, and Theft.

He appears in court today, 16 January.

Initial Release (13 January):

Shortly before 2:30PM on Wednesday, 11 January, officers responded to a report of an assault at a service station on Walkers Road. An off-duty police officer in full uniform had been at the service station when he was approached by a man known to him who made threats against him and assaulted him. A struggle ensued and the man then fled the location.

The officer received minor injuries, attended the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment and was subsequently discharged.

At about 4:30PM yesterday, 12 January, a man age 19 of Bodden Town, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police in relation to the incident. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
