Easy does it: Top 5 most dangerous jobs ever

Have
you ever had a bad accident at work? Maybe a hard slip and fall or a
bad bump on the head.
For
some employees, they have much more to worry about, though. Many
people go to work each day knowing that there is a possibility they
might not come home.
Aside
from the obvious most dangerous jobs, such as policeman or
firefighters, the other jobs might surprise you. Read on for a list
of the most dangerous jobs that you never thought could be harmful.
1.
Electricians
It’s
no surprise that the job of an electrician is a dangerous one.
How
many times have you gotten out of a hot car and shock to yourself on
the handle? It’s pretty unpleasant. Now imagine you’re working on
a powerline, and one mistake from your coworker sends thousands of
jolts of electricity down your spine.
To
put this into perspective, a typical household appliance has
about 110
V,
and with a direct current can easily kill an adult person.
2.
Truck Driver
Most
of us get a little bit nervous when we are cruising down the
interstate and a big semi truck rides next to or behind us. The
nerves come for good reason.
Semi
truck drivers are often pushed to their limits, driving through days
and nights, relying on several cups of coffee.
A
truck driving profession has around 918 fatalities per year.
Remember, there is no such thing as a fender bender when you’re
barreling down the road and in 18 wheeler.
3.
Loggers
Logging
workers maintain a high fatality rate of 135.9 fatal work injuries
per 100,000 workers.
This
job is extremely physically demanding and requires workers to
regularly use heavy duty equipment, such as chainsaws. With heavy
limbs dropping from the skies and trees falling left and right,
logging rates it’s self as one of the most hazardous jobs.
4.
Fishermen
You
might like to spend your Saturdays out on the lake with a bucket of
shrimp and a trusty
fishing pole,
but this is not the type of fisherman we are talking about.
Commercial
fisherman that use heavy equipment and fish deep-sea have a work
fatality rate of about 86 deaths per 100,000 workers.
Most
of these deaths can be attributed to poor work education, failed
machinery, and poor weather conditions.
5.
Oil Rigger
Oil
rigging should not be on this list, as most of the accidents that
happen while on the job are a result of negligence. Unfortunately,
though, it’s made the top 5.
Some
of the most common oil rigging accidents happen from fires,
explosions, falls from extreme heights, and machinery failure. Most,
if not all, of which are completely preventable with the proper PPE
(personal protective equipment).
If
oil rigging is, or was, on your resume and you’ve been injured as a
result of negligence, read
more here.
Remember that there is always something more that can be done.
Dangerous
Jobs Still Have to be Done
Every
day we live our lives and take for granted the electricity that we
use and the oil we burn in our cars, but we often forget that someone
risked their life so that we could have those things.
Is
your job on the top most dangerous jobs list? You might want to
consider changing your career path.
